Mrs. Angela Fitzpatrick, a native of Marshall who enters her 19th year as a public school educator in 2023-2024, has been named lone finalist for Superintendent of Karnack Independent School District.
The announcement came after a special called afternoon meeting of the Karnack ISD Board of Trustees Tuesday afternoon.
Fitzpatrick will take the reins of KISD from Mrs. Amy Dickson, who will be retiring in December.
“It is my goal to build upon the Karnack Independent School District’s successes, sustain the district’s pride, and continue to make a difference in the lives of students,” said Fitzpatrick, who spent the first 18 years of her career in Marshall ISD. “I will apply myself diligently to this task and work tirelessly with the Board to carry out their vision for KISD.”
Fitzpatrick is a 1994 graduate of Marshall High School who went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts from Wiley College and a Master of Education from LeTourneau University. Her 18 years in Marshall began as an instructional aide, before rising to become an assistant principal and then a principal in MISD.
Fitzpatrick was principal of Sam Houston Middle School from 2012-2017, and then became principal of the new David Crockett Elementary when it opened in the fall of 2017. She had been named principal of Sam Houston STEM Academy earlier this summer.
Following a state-mandated 21-day waiting period after being named lone finalist, Fitzpatrick will begin the 2023-2024 school year working alongside Dickson, who will remain with the district through her official retirement date of Dec. 15. Dickson will retire after 30 years as an educator, including the last seven as Karnack ISD Superintendent.
Karnack ISD serves students in grades PreK through 8 from the Karnack, Uncertain and greater Caddo Lake areas.
“I will strive to earn the respect of Karnack ISD administrators, teachers, staff, and the greater community because I know that when mutual respect occurs, morale is high, and teamwork is evident,” Fitzpatrick said. “I am honored to support and serve the staff of Karnack ISD as we create exceptional learning experiences for students.”
Karnack ISD will welcome its students back for the 2023-2024 school year with the first day of school on Monday, Aug. 14.
